If you are reading this, you obviously know what happened to Dana last Monday while riding with good friend David Benyo near Albany, NY. A general story appeared in the Elmira Star Gazette yesterday:

As of today (Tuesday, August 14th - DANA'S BIRTHDAY!), Dana has made tremendous progress. Dana has been reacting to his environment and people in his room which are all good signs. He has amazed the staff here at his progress and determination.
The Doctor just came in and updated us (12:10pm EST, 8/14). The two largest concerns they have had at this point are his brain and lung function. Given he is reacting to his environment and to small commands from nurses to squeeze hands or move toes, they feel very good about his brain activity - to the point of limiting visitors so he is not 'over-stimulated'. He was not able to get enough oxygen for some time given damage to his lungs. However, he is now getting 50% of his oxygen on his own, so his lung function is also improving. If this continues, they will work on operating on his multiple breaks tomorrow. For now, Dana needs to just keep up what he's been doing.... More later....

To the extended Carr family...
I am so sorry to hear about Dana. I work with Dexter, and he has shared with me for over a year now how special Dana is. I'm really glad to hear that there are encouraging signs of his recovery. Please know that all of you - and especially Dana - are in our thoughts and prayers over here in eastern Mass.

Carr Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Dana. Dave is my cousin now, and I spent quite a bit of time with Dana in the process. He's a great guy and it's great to hear he's getting better every hour. If there is anything I can do please ask.
I have folks at work pulling for him, as well as the BMW community and folks on myspace. He is in all of our thoughts and prayers.

Hello Carr Family. I'm an extended friend of Rick's. we just rented the cottage and Dana was our wonderful welcomer. My family will hold your family in our thoughts and prayers. Dana is young and strong and has many people pulling for him. Never doubt the power of the collective consciousness! My best to you all! Laurie Liberatore & family
To all the Carr's,
I am so sorry (all the Hurley's are so sorry) to hear about Dana's accident. He and all of you are certainly very much in our prayers. Dana has been added to the prayer list as well at both St. Michael's and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Churches that I lead here in Rochester.
Our son Brendan, who thinks the world of Dana by the way, and who was so grateful to him for working with him last summer as he got ready for collegiate XC and Track and Field, informed me of the news.
I believe on his Facebook Brendan has posted a note to the effect that "he's pulling for Dana!" Track and XC guys are something special!
I know Dana is very strong physically as well as strong-willed and highly competitive. These qualities, I know, will be great assets to him as he recovers from his injuries.
Linda, Rick, Jess and Courtney, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers... we send you our love and our strength to share with Dana... May God bless him with a complete recovery...we know that God granted him a tremendous healing before... I truly believe that yet another healing is waiting for him and that it will allow Dana to share with many people how much God loves and cares for all of us.
We'll keep checking this blog for news.
Love and prayers to you all,
Deacon Dan Hurley

To Courtney and the Carr family,
It was a horrible shock to hear about Dana's accident. Regina (my fiance) and I had been up in the woods of NY at an XC camp till today and out of cell range. We send our best wishes and prayers to all of you and if possible please pass on a message to Dana from us. Tell him that he is in our prayers and that we care about him deeply and know that he is a fighter and he will make it all the way back to full health. We also expect to see him and Courtney, smiling as always, at our wedding next July. Dana promised that he would be there and I know that he always keeps his promises. Be well and stay strong.

This is Donna Trinkoff sending love and healing wishes from NYC. The word is out and there's a lot of positive energy going up to Dana from Jan and friends and family members. He has the Carr fighting spirit!
Dana, I'm one of the two paramedics that cared for you after your accident on Plank Road in Berlin NY. I just found out about your amazing improvement last night from a student in an EMT class I'm teaching. There is no doubt in my mind that your recovery is based on your spirit, love for life, your wonderful family & friends and the skill and dedication of the nurses, MDs and staff at AMCH. As a prehospital provider it is very rare that I ever find out what happens to a patient after they leave my care. Two agencies in addition to the helicopter crew were instrumental in providing the best pre-hospital care possible which also contributed to your recovery. Berlin Fire and Ambulance and Petersburg Ambulance responded and provided stabilization and then transport to the landing zone. These are all volunteer agencies that spend hundreds of hours training with their only compensation the knowledge and confidence in their ability to care for critically sick and injured neighbors in their community. I have contacts at each agency and will make sure they are aware of your condition and blog. They will be thrilled to hear of your progress.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
