Monday afternoon update 8/27

Yesterday, Dana had a trach tube inserted replacing the breathing tube in his mouth and peg tube to help with tube feedings. Nurse Courtney says this is a good thing for Dana as it will be much more comfortable for him . As has been the trend, Dana did great with the procedure and was responding to Court and others.

This could change, but the plan for the week is for two surgeries. Tuesday the docs(both ortho and plastics) will repair his elbow and also perform a bone graft and skin graft on his left arm. While we haven't talked with the Neuro surgeon yet, at the moment, Dana's back surgery is planned for Wednesday.

It has been a tough two weeks for all of us and Dana has come a long way in a short time and your love, support, thoughts, prayers and well wihes have been tremendously uplifting. Thanks so much.

Next time he's awake, ask him if I can 'watch' his car for a few weeks! It would be perfect for the Mass Pike (aka U.S. Autobahn). I'll keep it under 90 mph!

All joking aside - thanks for the updates. Having the blog to check is great....

Big Horn Velo was out in action this past weekend at the Chris Thater Memorial race in Binghamton. I speak at least for myself when I say that I was thinking about Dana while I was racing, especially when missing having his wheel to hold on to drag me to the finish!! Keep getting stronger Dana!

Hello everyone,

Glad you got to see three members of the Lake family in the last few days, but sorry I wasn't one of them!

Thanks for the news. We think of you all and pray for each of you as this is a most difficult time. Being 3 hours away from home doesn't help the situation.

Gary and Alexis leave on their road trip tomorrow. They will stay in touch via phone and computer.

We continue to think positive thoughts about Dana and send positive energy your way.

Love from the Lakes,
Martha

Ongoing prayers and support from Buffalo - I check the blog at least once a day for updates, and I know there's a lot of consistent traffic coming from Horseheads as well.

Keep up the good work, and take care.

Rick, Linda, Jessie and Courtney,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during Dana's surgeries today and tomorrow, as they have been since we heard about the accident. Stay strong and remember to take care of yourselves as you help Dana with his recovery. If you need anything help is just a phone call away. Jessie, the slide show is great.....can't help but smile whenever I look at it.

Love

Rick, Linda, and family,
The next few days, as Dana goes thru these surgeries, it may be especially hard for you to be the ones who can only watch and pray. Know that we are all out here, doing just the same. And somewhere, there has to be a deafening roar of our positive thoughts and fervent prayers for Dana. You are never far from our thoughts these days. We hope for continued good news tomorrow. And strength for you all until then.
Love, Billy and Laura

Hello Courtney & Rick and the rest of the family who have no idea who I am. Anyhow, I've been keeping track of Dana's progress through the site as well as through Colleen. You have all been in my thoughts so very often! The note from Lance was awesome. Lance was a tremendouse inspiration to my husband as well. Can't think of a better role model. Stay strong and know that there are many many of us out here pulling for you and especially for Dana!
