I'm honored to be the Guest Blogger today...Aunt Judy
Linda asked to apologize for her in not 'updating' in the last day or so... just needed a small break. Dana had an evening of watching Law & Order and Friends Wed evening with his glasses on and attentive! Thursday and today Dana has had a hard time sleeping through the night(as he has had for a NUMBER of weeks)...but has been very responsive during the day. Two pieces of great news is that Shepard Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta has let Courtney know in the past day or so, that they will admit Dana! At this point the exact date has not been determined. Meanwhile back in D 319 a PT has just an hour ago started to gently mobilize his hips, knees and ankles. He has been periodically moved from the reclining chair, to the 'sport bed'...to alleviate possible pressure from building up in one or another area. The immediate major focus is as Linda said...to wean Dana off of the vent, to encourage him to eat (He DOES seem hungry!) but more importantly to give him a quiet and restful environment conducive to sleep. DANA however, wants company and indicated a number of times recently that he was 'bored'! All of the above efforts of course, to prepare Dane for his sojourn to ATLANTA! Courtney and the immediate family are just SO grateful and heartwarmed by all of the prayers, well wishes, and deep consideration for the enormity of Dana's progress. Live Strong...

Judy - you did a great job! Please tell Linda she has nothing to apologize for. We will take the news whenever we can get it. We are thrilled that Dana will be going to Shepard. We understand it is great - more than great. Wonderful news that they did some PT on Dana. Your family is doing an amazing job of staying strong and supporting each other. You know we can relate to that. Keep us updated as you have been doing. We appreciate it so much. On a personal note, in case Jessy isn't there just now, Alexis found an apartment in LA. What an adventure! Hugs to all the family. You are in our thoughts daily.

Hi Family,
We will miss you all this weekend. And I'm sure Dana will miss holding Aunt Kim's hand even thou we all know it was Courtney's that he wanted and not mine. But that's ok. Give him kisses for us and tell him I guess we'll just have to travel South instead on North real soon. Keep up the great work Dana we know you can do it, we are all behind you and love you. Thoughts and prayers are with you in Virginia this weekend.
Love you all
Aunt Kim and Uncle Craig

Dana, Courtney and all of you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you again for the update.(and yes Aunt Judy, you did a great job).

IN DANA'S HONOR:
On behalf of Big Horn Velo Racing team: We just wanted to let you all know that Dana is always on our minds as we ride.
Also, in Dana's Honor we have made special pocket patches that will be pinned to all of our jersey's tomorrow for the races in Montrose PA. The patches have Dana's initials (D.C.)in the upper left and bottom right corner with his name across the center. There is a picture of a cyclist in the upper right and a medics red cross in the bottom left. These will be worn the rest of the season and distributed to any BHV club riders who want them also.
We will mail you one.
LIVESTRONG DANA, RIDING FOR YOU!!
We are happy to see that Dana is progressing so well. Please let Courtney know that all the nursing faculty at Elmira College are keeping Dana in our thoughts and prayers.
Dear Carrs:
What wonderful news! How comforting it must be to have a plan in front of you and that Dana has been accepted to Shepard. You have all been so faithful and strong and we know that the miracles Dana has accomplished are just the beginning of more to come. We continue to pray for you all each day and rejoice in the milestones you have already met.
Blessings,
Dan & Cathy Kraft
Hello Carr family: I was moved to tears yet again as I read about Dana's progress. I agree with Linda, I too believe in miracles! I have said on numerous occassions this young man is destined to be on this earth, that's all there is to it! You all continue to be in my thoughts. Laurie
Glad to hear Dana is going to Georgia. This month's Bicycling Magazine has an inspirational story about Saul Raisin, a bike racer who also was treated at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. Sounds like a perfect place for rehab. I'm sure Dana will be back riding in the future. Tell Dana he is not allowed to train with Saul Raisin while he is in Atlanta. Dana is fast enough already.

Somehow I have to belive Dana's not a tv guy, I'll bet the boobtube will drive him ahead in his rehab :p
Keep the tempo, Dana !!

Courtney or Mr. & Mrs. Carr,
You are more than welcome to stay with us in Atlanta!! We would love it!! We are 9 miles from the Shephard Center and it's mostly highway getting there - so it will take like 15-18 minutes!
We have a spare bedroom with your own bathroom, too! The closet space in that room is terrific so you will have a lot of space to store stuff.
Just call!

Courtney, Family and Blog Readers,
I have had the opportunity to get to know Courtney, her family and Dana's family and friends over the past couple of weeks as my father is currently in the SICU also. Thanks to all of them we started our own blog for my father.
It has been a great honor to share a waiting room with these folks as they are always positive and upbeat. Dana has a great support system around him and with there help I know he will succeed in his recovery and anything else he chooses to tackle.
Courtney, we wish you all the best in your road to a full recovery.
Sincerely,
Todd Ferraro
I read in the Corning Leader about your accident not long ago, and now I see that you are in the hospital with our friend Joe Ferraro. Our thoughts and prayers are with both your families and we wish you continued success in your recovery.
