Today Dana took the next step on his road to recovery. He flew by air ambulance (accompanied by Courtney) to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA. Shepherd's is a catastrophic care hospital specializing in spinal cord injury for young people, especially athletes. With Dana's determination and athletic focus we think this will be the best place for him to rehabilitate. If you are interested in taking a peak, the website is http://www.shepherd.org/. Dana and Courtney are so grateful for the tremendous support they have received - from the stream of visitors in Albany, the inspiring cards, and well wishes and prayers from everyone. Courtney is alone in Atlanta for the next few days, so please keep the positive energy, cards, etc. coming her way. Her e-mail address is cwolanin1@hotmail.com. While she might not be able to answer every e-mail, I'm sure she will appreciate hearing from you.
Dana will be in the ICU for a couple of days while they access his condition and formulate a plan for the medical rehabilitation phase. Their stay in Atlanta will most likely be several months.
Courtney said the flight from Albany to Atlanta was smooth and Dana is doing well.
As we receive more information from Court, we will upate the blog and keep you posted on Dana's progress. As always, thank you so much for your continuing support, words of encouragement, love and faith.

Dana - Keep up the amazing progress my friend. Your pictures outside the hospital nearly made me shed a tear at work. Thanks for that...I'm sure it made me look real "manly" in front of my colleagues! It's incredible that you're taking this next step already. I wouldn't expect anything less from you. Congratulations.
Courtney - Stay positive and patient. Remember, you got Dana into the BEST rehab facility in the country. I know you are going to see more miracles first-hand during your time in Atlanta. Your attitude has always been your most admirable feature - let it now act as Dana's most valuable source of inspiration.
Rick, Linda and Jessy - Dana could not have made it to the "next step" without such an amazing family. Your perseverence and optimism through all this has been an inspiration to us all.
Dave and Michelle - You two were "the rock" that we all needed through Dana's time in Albany. Your ability to step up and act as the host when so many of us made the trek to your hometown was incredible. Thank you for being there for the Carrs and Dana's many visitors.
Miss you all and hope to see you soon,
Jon

With his determination, I know great things are going to happen. We are so proud of you Dana!!! You are certainly a fighter. Courtney, keep strong, you are in our prayers.

Hurray for Dana!!! We know that with his determination he will surely do well in Atlanta. May God give Courtney the strength to adjust to this big transition south. We will surely keep both of them in our prayers and send all of our positive energy their way. Thinking of all of you always...

Please use Raleigh as a stopping/break point to Atlanta. We also have a place about 2-1/2 to 3 hours from Atlanta for a GREAT place to relax if needed.

This one's for you Courtney! I was told by someone who is married to a doctor that ICU nurses are a notch above...that would be you! I saw you pay bills, oversee Dana's care, keep all of us professionally informed, keep every moment with Dana upbeat, advocate for Shepard, feed, encourage and set the pace for Dana to reach nothing less than recovery. You are a very remarkable woman. While you may be alone for the moment in Atlanta...it will not be long that Shepard will get to know you and include you, your medical expertise, your relentless energy and your unwavering commitment PLUS your mega-watt smile, into their fold, as Albany Med Center did. How can they not?! You are afterall, a notch above.
Love and Hugs Courtney...
Aunt Judy
